Up for grabs at $949,000 is a mid-century modern home in the date palm grove of Rancho Mirage's historic Tamarisk Ranchos, and it comes with "a perk."

That's how listing agent Sandra Quinn of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties describes the Mills Act annual property tax savings of 20-70% attached to this 1961 desert abode as an incentive for its continued preservation and maintenance.

The 1,631-square-foot house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open floor plan. Since its completion in 1961, the home has undergone several updates.

There are floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors throughout the house. The kitchen features Italian cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, a see-through pantry and a breakfast area.

A double-sided, wood-burning fireplace divides the dining and living rooms.

Privacy shutters adorn each bedroom, and each bathroom has porcelain tile, oval vessel sinks and custom hardware.

The primary suite has access to a private patio through a sliding glass door.

According to the listing, the home and its community are historically designated under the Mills Act program.

Tamarisk Ranchos is a cluster of 16 homes around a private community pool, spa and greenbelt. Many of its residents are original owners or families of original owners.
